Nicholas
Woods is the inspiration for our foundation. He was diagnosed
with Friedreichs Ataxia at the age of ten in 1996. Prior to his diagnosis,
he was a very energetic young man participating in soccer, tennis,
karate, swimming, baseball and bike riding since the age of two. He
has been in a wheelchair since the age of 14.
Nicholas's condition,
being very much like Muscular Dystrophy, falls under that umbrella
for research funding. He gets some financial aid from them, however
there are many things that do not qualify for assistance like acupuncture
treatments that significantly boost his motor control and improve
his quality of life.
Nicholas is
just one of thousands of children in the United States that has
been diagnosed with Friedreichs Ataxia.
